Idaho: Proposition 2
Proposition 2 Overwhelmingly Defeated
Proposition 2 was defeated by a margin of more than 3-to-1. The landslide of opposition in Idaho is largely due to aggressive reporting and campaigning around the issue of out-of-state special interest influence. Voters in Idaho were rightly unsettled by the fact that this supposed citizen initiative was actually bought and operated by non-Idaho ideologues. Additionally, many voters were more concerned with effectively managing growth and protecting resources than providing a taxpayer funded subsidy for sprawling development. The Idaho initiative was similar to those throughout the West that sought to obscure radical takings provisions under the guise of eminent domain reform. Proposition 2 was opposed by a bipartisan array of state and local leaders, including the new Governor-Elect Butch Otter (R).
