Montana: Initiative 154

After initially qualifying for the November ballot, Initiative-154 was struck down by the Montana Supreme Court for fraudulent signature gathering. I-154 was based on other ballot initiatives promoted by Howie Rich and Americans for Limited Government that combined eminent domain and regulatory takings provisions. Because the final court ruling came just days prior to the election, a robust campaign in opposition to the measure was waged with the strong support of Governor Schweitzer.  Supporters of the takings campaign hope to revive the measure for the 2008 ballot.
